Sax & Vocals

Born and raised in Chopper land, and proud of it.
Richard loves being out and about, especially in the more remote areas where there are not many people.
He is a shy and quiet kind of person that doesn't like to make a fuss.

History

Richard has always been more au-fait with musical theory than with practice.  He took piano lessons from an early age and it wasn’t long before he reached his grade eight in music theory.  His renditions of the practical pieces however, often left the examiners in bewildered silence.

Soon after he started working, Richard bought his first saxophone.  The family was then repeatedly treated to his versions of Baker Street, Careless Whisper and of course, some Madness songs.

Nevertheless, after a shaky start, much practice and hard work, Richard’s saxophone playing has greatly improved and his reproduction of One Step Beyond is definitely worth hearing.

Richard and his brother Rob have always worked close together with regard to performing music from forming and rehearsing with the cadet bands to performing karaoke on family holidays.  So it was no surprise that Richard was on board when Rob put the band Flipside together.

Equipment

Richard plays a Selmer VI Tenor Saxophone with a brass mouth piece for a crunchier blues sound.

He also has an Alto Sax and a Yamaha Keyboard.

These instruments are played through the PA system.

Musical Influences

As Richard is Rob's younger Brother,

(yes I know it's hard to believe that Rob is older!!)

he was obviously educated to enjoy great music.

Considering this point, Richard's musical influences include:

UB40, Madness, Meat Loaf, and much much more
